Maranhão, Meu Tesouro, Meu Torrão
Humberto de Maracanã
Maranhão, My Treasure, My Homeland
Maranhão, my treasure, my homeland
I made this tune for you, Maranhão
Land of the babassu that nature cultivates
This native palm tree is what inspires me
On the beach of the sheets there's an enchanted bull
And the reign of King Sebastião
Mermaid sings at the bow
In the forest the guriatã
Land of sweet pirunga
And the delicious pitombotã
And every year, the great Juçara festival
In October at Maracanã
In June there's the bumbá-my-ox
Celebrated in honor of Saint John
The master sings and shakes the maraca
The rattle and tambourine make the ground tremble
This heritage was left by our grandparents
Today cultivated by us
To compose your history, Maranhão
