I Come from the South
I was born to sing these sorrows,
bring the light among the beasts,
walk through the shamelessness with a lightning bolt,
touch the inhuman scars.
I'm American, both father and mother,
born from the ashes of the Araucanians,
because when the invader sought gold,
fires and pain were my homeland's greeting.
I cherish the memory of the heroes,
water the underground hopes,
because what good would singing do,
the gift of beauty and of words
if they didn't serve for my people
to fight with me, to walk with me?
I represent tribes that fell
defending beloved flags
and all that remained was silence and rain
after the splendor of their battles.
But I continue their actions
and across all of America
I shake off the pains of my people,
inspire the roots of their swords.
