La Sonámbula
Irma Serrano
The Sleepwalker
Just three things I had,
Horse, dog, and woman;
A beautiful purebred horse
Good at running.
A fine breed dog,
A puppy of good stock;
And his woman Adelina,
A very good-looking female.
These three things are mine,
Let no one claim them,
The blonde Garcia shouted,
As if shouting into the air.
He had fire in his eyes,
When he said to his woman;
Where have you been tonight
That your house is empty.
In the times of my parents
I walked in my sleep,
I don't offend you,
Because I am loved by no one.
I have a heavy sleep,
The angry blonde said;
But as soon as I close my eyes
Is when I hunt deer.
The colt rests calmly
Under the moon asleep,
The dog dozes off calmly
Watching over his old friend.
But that night Adelina
In other beloved arms,
With kisses she ignites fire,
That she doesn't light for her husband.
On the path by the river,
Before the sun peeked out,
Two bodies were found
That no one could identify.
With the hooves of a horse,
Two bodies have been torn apart;
And the bites of a dog
Have disfigured their faces.
He who is a brave man,
Does not let himself be found,
Horse, dog, and gun
With more reason to his old lady.
Because as the blonde said,
I lost the one I adored,
Because by walking in my sleep,
The devil will take her away.
Ay, ay, ay....
