La hormiga vecina
Isabel Parra
The Neighbor Ant
What good does it do for humans
To stop at the stars
When we see that the earth
Is sown with poverty?
I declare humbly:
I am the neighbor ant
Who gazed at the roses
Separating the thorns.
In this pilgrimage
Differences crossed paths
Between ungrateful abundance
And the coldness of consciences.
With eyes wide open
Life gave me reason
That the cry for justice
Disarms the shark.
In the morning I smell
The fragrance of a violet
And its perfume pierces
Like a message on my door.
It tells me: Another life is coming
Where we will be brothers,
Don't tell me that the flowers
Have forgotten about humans.
I don't sing in bitterness,
I take refuge in trust
Of a people who have unleashed
The keys of hope.
And if my voice were to stray
From the path of denunciation
I would put a thousand padlocks on it,
I would tell it not to sing.
