Si Yo Pudiera
Ismael Rivera
If I Could
If I could transform at my whim
The harsh jungle in which I have to dwell
Into a garden with jasmine
I would listen to the sea of seraphim
I would hear the trumpets of happiness.
I would put palm trees lining the shores
And the boys flirting with their girls
Under the spell of a twilight
To dream like me in my school years.
I would even change the name of the city
To have happiness closer
I would erase it from hatred and crime
And to finish, and to finish
And to finish, I would call it Borinquen.
