Como La Cigarra
Ismael Serrano
Like The Cicada
So many times they killed me,
So many times I died,
Yet here I am
Resurrecting.
I give thanks to misfortune
And to the hand with a dagger
Because it killed me so badly,
And I kept singing.
Singing to the sun like the cicada
After a year under the ground,
Just like a survivor
Returning from war.
So many times they erased me,
So many times I disappeared,
I went to my own burial
Alone and crying.
I tied a knot in my handkerchief
But then I forgot
That it wasn't the only time,
And I kept singing.
Singing to the sun like the cicada
After a year under the ground,
Just like a survivor
Returning from war.
So many times they killed you,
So many times you will resurrect,
How many nights will you spend
Despairing.
And at the hour of shipwreck
And in the darkness
Someone will rescue you
To keep on singing.
Singing to the sun like the cicada
After a year under the ground,
Just like a survivor
Returning from war.
Singing to the sun like the cicada
After a year under the ground,
Just like a survivor
Returning from war.
