Swap Meet
The world has been and will be a piece of crap, I know it...
(In fifteen-six and in two thousand too!)
There have always been thieves,
tricksters and swindled,
happy and bitter, values and double...
But the twentieth century is a display
of insolent evil, no one can deny it.
We live rolled in a mess
and in the same mud we're all groped...
Today it turns out that it's the same to be honest as a traitor!...
ignorant, wise or thief, generous or swindler!.
Everything is the same! Nothing is better!
the same a donkey as a great professor!
There are no postponements or hierarchy,
the immoral have made us all the same.
If one lives in deceit
and another steals in their ambition,
it's the same whether they're a priest,
a mattress maker, king of clubs,
a crook or a stowaway!...
What a lack of respect, what an assault on reason!
anyone is a gentleman! anyone is a thief!
Mixed with Stavisky, there goes Don Bosco and Mignón!,
Don Chicho and Napoleon, Carnera and San Martín...
Just like in the disrespectful shop window
life has been mixed in the swap meets,
and wounded by a sword without rivets
you see the bible cry against a water heater...
Twentieth century, problematic and feverish swap meet!...
he who doesn't cry doesn't get fed and he who doesn't hustle is a fool.
Go ahead! keep going!
we'll meet in the oven!
Don't think anymore, sit on the side,
no one cares if you were born honest!
It's the same the one who works
night and day like an ox,
as the one who lives off others,
the one who kills, the one who cures
or is outside the law...
