We'll Be Back
It might seem like all that's left is counting the failures.
That's why we always put off the last drink.
In the meantime, I drink, smoke, live, and love.
Maybe like everyone else.
More like too much.
In the meantime, being happy is an obligation
That I break from time to time.
And even though this city feels like Fort Apache
On the verge of giving in, about to collapse,
We'll storm the heavens again
And the streets will burn like they did before.
Spring will shine on your skin
Red with caramel-colored light.
Time breaks its promises, lies
In the eyes of the most beautiful women.
Meanwhile, I've seen the sweet flame
Of an untouched future fade away, life on hold.
I grew up, arrived late, missed some trains.
The future is today, tomorrow is urgent.
I saw the walls fall, Palestine bleed.
I saw history die, I saw it reborn wounded.
I saw time retreat,
Bodies on the beaches, flames in Baghdad.
And even though we're no longer kids,
Age never forces us to surrender.
We'll cover the streets again
Until dawn breaks with future and verses.
We'll be free again, pure,
And you'll put flowers in my hair.
We'll storm the heavens again
And the streets will burn like they did before.
Spring will shine on your skin
Red with caramel-colored light.
