The Date

You were looking towards the end of the bar
at a slim platinum blonde,
in a tight dress smoking
a Ducados. 'What should I do?' you asked.
'Say anything,
if you don't sleep at home tonight, I owe you a drink.'

You hesitated, determined to go,
'But hey dude, how come you have doubts?'
'You know what? Forget about the blonde.
Tonight I'll stay by your side,
I want to be with you.
Boss, give my friend whatever he wants here.'

Madrid was a bonfire and we were arsonists,
howling at the night like lone wolves.
Madrid was hell and we were the devil,
run or our trident will pierce you.

When that nightclub bouncer
decided upon seeing me that I wasn't
fit to enter his tacky place
I said, 'Do you see my buddy?
He was in prison
because he took out a guy like you for less.'

But the bouncer, not even with that.
Laughing, we went to the bar across the street,
to get drunk, to curse women.
'You know what? It wouldn't be bad at all,
ten years from now,
to meet here at this same joint.'

And the deal was sealed. 'At this same time.' 'I'll be here.'
We toasted with beer and dawn broke.
The farewell was short. 'Take care!' 'See you later!'
'Remember, in ten years you have a date.'

And time passed so quickly,
after finishing college I lost track of you.
I never heard anything about your life,
one day a guy told me he saw you
seducing at the bar
a femme fatale.

Meanwhile, holding my own.
Every now and then they let me play somewhere.
Since you left, nothing is the same.
I have nothing left from back then,
just small battles
that I thought I had won, that I'll lose tomorrow.

Madrid was a bonfire and we were arsonists,
howling at the night like lone wolves.
Madrid was hell and we were the devil,
run or our trident will pierce you.

Ten years later, punctually,
in that bar I wait for you eagerly.
Not much has changed over there,
a bouncer like the one from back then,
today denies entry
to a couple of friends, they seem drunk.

Hours pass as I wait for you,
thousands of memories hit my head.
Hours pass and you don't show up,
time conquers all battles.

Hours pass and there's nothing left of you,
just a blonde staring at me at the bar.
Hours pass, I decide to leave and you didn't come,
maybe I'll say something to the blonde before I go.

Before I go.
