Principio de Incertidumbre
Ismael Serrano
Principle of Uncertainty
The networks may bring
broken necks, black cormorant feathers,
traffic lights trembling,
radios silent and the city collapsing.
Your husband or the alarm clock
may pull you out of my arms,
interrupting your breakfast
with the flight of a B-52.
Everything may stay the same.
It may also not be so
and you may find the mercury
of my voice soaking your answering machine,
and olive trees may bloom in the Hebron valley.
The ice may burn you,
or the light of the television.
The parliament may summon you
and decree black and white,
wounded angels may smile
in the crime section,
feeding on smoke
that woman may shatter like glass.
A snake may climb
her endless legs. It could happen.
Everything may stay the same.
It may also not be so.
Perhaps white flags
will illuminate your room
and my love will be close
and the gods may hesitate.
And this may be a good beginning,
a principle of uncertainty.
You may be saved. You may
wake up with me
and the swords may be buried.
Everything may stay the same.
It may also not be so
and you may find the mercury
of my voice soaking your answering machine,
and olive trees may bloom in the Hebron valley.
The ice may burn you,
or the light of the television.
There is a possibility
that you may wake up with me
and the cannons may rust.
