Sometimes it Happens

Sometimes life kills you and love
puts silicone in the locks of your house,
or opens a regulation file for you,
and expels you from Eden, to strange lands.
Sometimes you leave a bar and the light
burns the skin of this vampire who loves you,
fills your forehead with fine brown dust,
yawns and burns your wings with stitches.

But it also happens
that, without knowing how or when,
something makes your skin bristle
and rescues you from the shipwreck.

And it's always Friday, summer nap,
village fair, garlands in May,
storms that turn off the TV.
Phones that burn, your voice names me,
today I dine with you, today revolution,
kings who lose their crowns,
seeing you in the crowd,
hugs that set fire to the dawn
on the southern beaches.

Sometimes life kills you and you find yourself
alone and in this non-recyclable heart
oil tankers are sinking and suspicions
that cause myopia in dagger throwers.
Sometimes life kills you and winter
pulls out its revolver, aims at your ribs,
you are terrified by photo albums and the mirror,
the car smells of pine and the sea of gasoline.

But it also happens
that, without knowing how or when,
something makes your skin bristle
and rescues you from the shipwreck.

And it's always Friday, summer nap,
village fair, garlands in May,
storms that turn off the TV.
Phones that burn, your voice names me,
today I dine with you, today revolution,
kings who lose their crowns,
seeing you in the crowd,
hugs that set fire to the dawn
on the southern beaches.

Sometimes life kills you...
And it's always Friday, summer nap...
Today I dine with you, today revolution...
