Estamos a Salvo
Ismael Serrano
We're Safe Now
We're safe from the edge of the night,
from bars where songs break through the smoke,
from the cold hookers, from the booze on the street,
from transparent sex, from their bellies talking.
From hunger, we were saved, from other continents,
from the truths that scream, sleeping women.
We're safe from planes, skyscrapers,
from old kids crossing our narrow path,
from feeling lost, the light of memory,
from pollen, from her laughter, from knowing you.
From deciding the end, and dying in a downpour,
tired of hurting, from dawn and its dreams.
The guardian angels kept us safe,
they closed the windows to prevent your leap.
From our choices, the wise saved us,
from the rebellious bite that this embrace brings.
We're safe from the sea and its purity,
from books that wrote questions without answers,
from being out of touch, from talking to the neighbor
who sleeps on the stairs, from chance and its children.
From the air, you're safe in which my barks tremble.
From you, we're safe. My life, I'm lost.
