Parte a Parte

Piece by Piece
What part of your sadness did I miss?
What part of your charm gives me chills?
What part of my shadow bored you?
What part didn’t I get about being ready?
What part of your tears are crying for me?
What part of this war is hand-to-hand?
What part of yesterday did we pay dearly?
What part of the day before yesterday is priceless?
We have to let come what’s coming,
And let go of what’s leaving,
When the tide slowly goes down,
We’ll see who swam naked
And who bled without bleeding. (2 times)
What part of the shadows will we keep?
What part of the past didn’t we step on?
What part of the shipwreck did we share?
What part is love and which is fear?
I look at those old photos in Buzios,
It’s like seeing a dream backlit.
I won’t be the one to drive in twice
The last nail in this coffin.
We have to let come what’s coming,
And let go of what’s leaving,
When the tide slowly goes down,
We’ll see who swam naked
And who bled without bleeding.
