Cancion Del Jardinero
Ivan Noble
Song of the Gardener
Look at me, I'm happy
among the dancing leaves
when the wind rolls through
the garden on a skateboard.
When I go to sleep
I close my eyes and dream
of the scent of a land
in bloom just for me.
I'm not a dancer
'cause I like to stay
still on the ground and feel
that my feet have roots.
Once I studied
in a little book of herbs
things that only I know
and that I'll never forget.
I learned that a walnut
is wrinkled and old,
but it can offer
lots and lots of honey.
In the garden, I'm a loyal sprite,
when a flower feels down
I paint it with a brush
and ring its little bell.
I'm the guardian and doctor
of a gang of flowers
that play dominoes
and then get a cough.
Here comes God
with a watering can of rain
or disguised as the sun
peeking from his balcony.
I'm not a big shot,
but in my earthen sky
I take care of the best treasure
lots and lots of love.
