My Poetry Was Born (feat. Abelardo de La Espriella)

My poetry was born
Like the early mornings in my hometown
Fiery, pure, and majestic
My verses, wandering and free like the wind
Like a shooting star in the beautiful night sky
Because the folklore of my Valledupar
Where love is born in a thousand hearts
Eternally lives in the soul of the Cesar
In the joy of a thousand accordions
No more little mud houses
The valley's filled with more lights
They don't sell little arepas, cakes
Meringues, chiricana, and sweets

But the folklore endures
Like the Arawak in the mountains
Like the Cesar River in Lozania
With its pure waters
What beautiful melodies
That a man composes without a rush
And all his friends whisper
How beautiful and grand is my land

Oh my dark-skinned beauty, I invite you to my land's festival
Feel the notes of an accordion
And understand how immense is the soul of the one who sings
Of that troubadour revealing his love in serenade

The kids in the village don’t wait for breezes
To lift their fragile kites to the wind
Today they just wait for that happy moment
When their parents let them party
No more little mud houses
The valley's filled with more lights
They don't sell little arepas, cakes, meringues
Chiricana, and sweets

Love of my loves, you who are the wandering swallow
Stop being the wandering soul and listen to my songs
Come to my land, my glorious land of accordions
A hardworking region with a thousand gifts, I’m sure you’d stay here
My poetry was born
In my land
My poetry was born
In my land
My poetry was born
In my land
My poetry was born.
