I Treni a Vapore
Ivano Fossati
Steam Trains
In the evening I fall asleep
And sometimes I dream because I want to dream
And in the dream I clench my fists
I hold my breath and listen
Sometimes it's the trees of Africa calling
Other nights it's sails folded to sail
They are men and women, steamships and flags
Travelers traveling to be saved
I remember important cities like Milan
Livid and sunken by its own hand
And if the love I had no longer knows my name
And if the love I had no longer knows my name
Like steam trains, like steam trains
From station to station, from door to door
And from rain to rain
From pain to pain
The pain will pass
Like steam trains
Like steam trains
The pain will pass
In the evening I fall asleep
And sometimes I dream because I know how to dream
And I dream of the band drums passing by
Or that will have to pass
I dream of the cold rain straight on my hands
The school kids leaving
Already tomorrow
I dream of the dreamers waiting for spring
Or some other spring to wait for again
Between a glass of snow
And a proper coffee
This winter will pass
And if the love I had no longer knows my name
And if the love I had no longer knows my name
Like steam trains, like steam trains
From station to station and from door to door
And from rain to rain
From pain to pain
The pain will pass
