A Capa do Viajante

The Traveler's Cape

I'm going to tell you what happened, this is pure truth
About a young man who traveled and liked vanity
On a Sunday eve, he arrived in a city
He went to the club to dance, to enjoy his youth
He met a girl and they danced freely

Before the rooster crowed, it was around 11 o'clock
The girl told him, 'I need to go home'
It's drizzling at night, but his cape is soaked
'Will you come with me?' They both went outside
They walked arm in arm on the street, sharing stories

They arrived at the avenue and parted ways
She went to her house, and he went to the inn
He left his address written on a card
He took the young man's cape just to show
That she was already dead, free from illusion

The next day, very early, he got up to search
For the girl's father's house, it was hard for him to find
He knocked on the gate, the old man asked him in
And he sat on a chair, they started talking
He asked about his daughter, the old man started crying

'My youngest daughter was named Aparecida
It's been a long time since she passed away
She died, went to the cemetery, and moved on to another life'
The young man told the old man, his voice trembling
'Yesterday, I was with her, walking on the avenue'

The old man told the young man, 'You won't believe it
Let's go to the cemetery, I want to show you'
The grave of my daughter, just to see how it is
The young man left with him, they walked slowly
They arrived at the cemetery, his cape was there
