Desde La Raíz
Jaime Flores
From the Root
I was born proud of my brown skin
I'm Mexican from the root
I'm the fruit of the honey from the hive
Of the taste of peppermint
Of beans and corn
I was born with huapango in my veins
Inheritance from my father and the violin
I'm a mix of querreque and lily
Of the alligator and the mermaid
Of a lady and a dandy
How beautiful it is to be a stream and a spring
How beautiful it is to be tequila and mezcal
How beautiful it is to be a child of this land
Embraced by the mountains
Lulled by the shepherd and his flute
How beautiful it is to see my flag waving
On a wooden mast
With the sound of a bugle
I like to walk along the path
Dense with cilantro and parsley
I like the smell of the smoke
That seeps into the grove, with a scent of sesame
How beautiful it is to be a stream and a spring
How beautiful it is to be tequila and mezcal
How beautiful it is to be a child of this land
Embraced by the mountains
Lulled by the shepherd and his flute
How beautiful it is to see my flag waving
On a wooden mast
With the sound of a bugle
How beautiful it is to be a child of this land
Embraced by the mountains
Lulled by the shepherd and his flute
How beautiful it is to see my flag waving
On a wooden mast
With the sound of a bugle
