La Rosa Azul de Alejandría
Javier Ruibal
The Blue Rose of Alexandria
All it took was a song,
A drink to make it last,
Just one kiss in the town square.
Sleepwalking in the heat,
The night seemed endless
Between your neck and your hips.
Rituals of love, you said,
A rose and I’ll be yours.
You won’t find mine,
The one I want isn’t in a garden.
Winter came and blanketed
This city from end to end:
There aren’t always roses in Granada.
And you decided to carry on
In your quest to find
The blue rose, the most precious one.
No matter how much I called her,
I didn’t understand:
She was searching for the rose of Alexandria.
