El Coyote
José Alfredo Jiménez
The Coyote
I painted a four on the coyote
And I went to the mountains
The coyote was a bandit
Born there in my land
I knew him since I was a child
We went to school together
In the first lessons
It was known what he was trying
Because he sang songs, fighting with his guitar
And even if he lost illusions, he didn't cry with his eyes
That night in May
He liked my Maria Elena
But I arrived on horseback
I already had a date with her
When I came down from the mountains
I faced the coyote
And embracing Maria Elena
I told him she already has a man
Because in the sacred hermitage
The mountain priest married us
He lowered his head
And cowardly left
But as he was a coyote
He turned back suddenly
He was looking for my back
But I found him in the forehead
Coyote, proud coyote
Who didn't respect loves
Could have been a good friend
Your betrayals got you killed
