Cuando Éramos Niños
Joan Manuel Serrat
When We Were Kids
When you wore braids, when I was a little boy, there were no worries, it never got cold. With a toy, we sought peace. You with your doll, me with the wild horse. Ding, dong, how the big bell rings...! Memories of good times come and go...! I was the captain of a corsair ship; I made it out of newspaper. You wore necklaces and crowns, so elegant; sometimes you were a queen, or a humble captive. Ding, dong, how the big bell rings...! Memories of good times come and go...! It snowed at Christmas, we sang songs; mother gave us cookies and nougat. A little hope and we saw ourselves as shepherds, a breath of joy: blowing angels. Ding, dong, how the big bell rings...! Memories of good times come and go...! Those were happy times. We didn't need anything else but candies, aniseed, and flattering games. We laughed and shivered, we knew how to dream. We had our nest in the bell tower. Ding, dong, how the big bell rings...! Memories of good times come and go...!
