O Ipê e O Prisioneiro
João Neto e Frederico
The Ipê and The Prisoner
When many years ago I was imprisoned in this cold cell
From the second floor of the penitentiary down the street I could see
When the gardener planted an ipê
And as the days went by it grew and came to life
While I suffered
My flowery ipê next to my cell
Today it reaches the height of my window
There's only one difference between us now
In here the nights no longer have dawn
How much brightness you have outside
I see a parasitic vine embracing you tightly on your trunk
While it hugs you, it sucks your sap leading you to death
That's how it was with me, it embraced me then betrayed me
That's why I killed her and now I only have her company
