Como Un Dolor de Muelas
Joaquín Sabina
Like a Toothache
As if my desires were coming to a good end
As if there was a place to become strong
As if there was finally a destiny for my steps
As if I found my true self
Like bringing each morning to today
Like a deep and quiet sigh
Like a relieved toothache
Like the impossible finally done
As if someone truly loved me
As if a good poem finally came out
A prayer
As if the sand sang in the desert
The sirens' songs of the dead sea
As if there were enough stairs to grow
As if a blind person wrote an open book
Come populate the baseboard with eyes
Sow with crumbs of warm bread
My teenage camphor gray hairs
Give voice to the deaf and wings to the lame
Bless our rice, our minute
As if we were not accomplices of mourning
Of the heart
