El Capitán de Su Calle
Joaquín Sabina
The Captain of His Street
Because he didn't want to be a statue of salt
They all called him restless ass
He pretended to be a normal guy
But he kept a secret
When the cynics started to pray
He lit a candle for Satan
He learned everything that needs to be forgotten
And he escaped from school
And for calling a spade a spade
And wine wine
The good people thought badly
And they said on the casino sidewalk
If this, if that
But he didn't care
Because he shouted when he had to be quiet
They all called him a party pooper
He slept all that needed to be dreamed
Without skipping a nap
And, although no one gave him a chance
He poured so much into the details
That without achieving anything he became
The captain of his street
But in the neighborhood there was a general
Who to top it off
Saw him go out at night to try
To find three legs
For the cats
And two pears for the elm
For a snack
Because he knew
That naked truth
Hides hidden behind the bark
The cherry pit
Of a doubt
And he laughed
With the melancholy
That gives reason to sadness
When lips lose their mind
Because he didn't know how to live without kissing
They all called him tough guy
But he kissed to recover
The kisses he was missing
And, although death terrified him, he thought
That if the pale lady arrived
He wouldn't waste the opportunity
To see how well she kissed
And, to make fun of the most sacred
The court officials
Framed the captain
And sentenced him to five thousand years and a day
So he can learn to sing
In the cold dungeon
Because he knew
That naked truth
Hides hidden behind the bark
The cherry pit
Of a doubt
And he laughed
With the melancholy
That gives reason to sadness
When lips lose their mind
