Mi Amigo Satan
Joaquín Sabina
My Friend Satan
The clock in the living room struck twelve
Tired from sleep, I turned off the light
When I heard a strong voice calling me
And Lucifer appeared to me
Don't tremble in fear, he warned me it's false
What the priests have told you about me
I know your tricks, I told the devil
Find another Faust and let me sleep
The heaven you dream of, he angrily replied
Is a private club for normal people
I come to take you on a journey with me
To the land from which no one has ever returned
He made a gesture with his hand
And in space I found myself
Flying with wings of foam
Looking at the earth beneath my feet
We crossed swarms of stars swiftly
While his voice sounded in my ear
Many centuries ago, he said, in heaven
There was a bloody revolution
A group of angels rose up
Against God's absolute power
Like all defeated, I knew exile
Slander, hatred, and humiliation
But I assure you, if we had won
Neither death, nor hell, nor five, nor two
Neither yours, nor mine, nor hatred, nor work
Would have existed, neither devil nor God
Let me live with you
Demon friend, I pleaded
Don't make me return to life
My old faith lost
Then a barbaric thunder was heard
And sweating, I had to wake up in my bed
My devil friend vanished shouting
Tell what you know to humanity
Since then I steal, drink, kill, drag
A miserable criminal life
Because I know death is waiting for me
In my friend Satan's sweet hell
Yes, what I tell you is a true story
Believe me or not, as you wish
But don't close the door on the devil
If he calls one night to your room
