Hardcore Mentality
Jerry Dafunkila
Hardcore mentality, hardcore reality
Mindsets are regressing and we fear calamity.
Look outside, misery is on the rise,
The homeless are fed up with begging, so they start to fight.
They take by force what life denies them,
Hatred becomes a scent that everyone spreads.
Without realizing it, the youth are swimming in it,
No one noticed, but fear is reigning.
Religion becomes a barrier between communities,
Often there are tensions that make you think it could blow at any moment.
But how do we break the wall that divides us,
If hatred and distrust become our motto?
Life is tough, but I’m one of those who hold on,
I try to be discreet with dreams in my pocket,
Full of plans, some could take me far.
It’s time to dream, so we gotta stay calm,
It’s a new mentality, a different vision, new clichés
In a tough life where you often have to cheat.
To get by, many like me dream of peace,
Less violence, more cash, that’s what I need.
Mindsets regress when we believe in racial inequality,
Hardcore mentality, we gotta deal with it, alas.
Hardcore mentality, feelings are far away,
Some have replaced their hearts with concrete.
Sometimes it’s hard to be united during tough times,
Hard to be sensitive during hard times.
There are sacrifices to make, but no one dares,
Hardcore is the one who will break this silence.
Nepotism makes people blind and almost deaf,
Communities lock themselves in and realize they’re wrong.
Hardcore mentality, sad reality
Hatred sometimes struggles to face the truth.
Chorus (x2)
Mindsets are becoming hardcore,
Everyone tries to impose themselves in the scene.
What life doesn’t give us, we take by force,
Violence becomes persuasive when the situation gets tough.
Sad times, grotesque mentality, people around me wonder
When will their lives have meaning?
Many dream of a society where only peace will be the essence,
Some pretend to show they see life through rose-colored glasses.
The pain stays inside until it explodes,
Only family and friends remain the true wealth.
Don’t show too many feelings, it’s a sign of weakness.
Hardcore mentality, many have bitten the hook,
Brothers tear each other apart to serve as a lesson.
We’re wary of everything, from neighbors to cops,
We don’t even count the abuses anymore, I piss on injustice.
Today a young man is murdered, tomorrow another falls.
The victims’ families are tired of decorating graves.
Here the police are known for their hardcore brutality
And their service to taxpayers is not up to par.
Hardcore life, street guys carry knives,
Tonight he wants to eat, pulls out his blade, a flimsy knife.
Gone are the days of confession,
Life is fast, no time, we gotta break through.
Motherfucker, exclusion is on the rise
The system and courage remain my only sponsors.
The atmosphere is heavy
Exactly, choose your side before your situation goes south.
Cliques form, mindsets transform.
Underground journalist, I’m talking about the madness of men.
Sad times for the folks from New York to Soweto.
The only place reserved for us is the ghetto.
We’re given weapons to shoot each other,
Drugs and alcohol to shoot up.
Hardcore mentality, hardcore reality,
Hardcore times, hardcore truth.
Chorus (x4)
