Voorbij

Something beautiful slipped away
Right past my head
Right by my heart
I didn’t know what

I closed the window
Shut both my eyes
And clenched my fists
Like I had it

I looked out the window
Gazed into the distance
Up high to the sky
To see if it was there

I walked outside
All the way to the horizon
Soaring up to the sky
To see if I could find it

I searched by the rose tree
Under the pear tree
Under the apple tree
But I saw nothing

Then I just walked away
I just moved on
I went back home
Just like that, with nothing

I took my own heart
Looked into my big heart
Deep in my empty heart
To see if it was there

Until the day was over
Until it was evening
Until it was so dark
That I couldn’t see

Then, in the twilight, I thought

Someone was calling me

Then I softly cried
I cried so quietly
I cried for so long
Until I fell asleep.
