Milonga Del Moro Judio
Jorge Drexler
Milonga of the Jewish Moor
For every wall a lament
In golden Jerusalem
And a thousand wasted lives
For every commandment.
I am dust of your wind
And though I bleed from your wound,
And every beloved stone
Holds my deepest love,
There is no stone in the world
Worth more than a life.
I am a Jewish Moor
Living among Christians,
I don't know which god is mine
Nor who my brothers are.
No dead that doesn't hurt me,
No winning side,
There is nothing but pain
And another life that flies away.
War is a very bad school
No matter the disguise it wears,
Forgive me for not enlisting
Under any flag,
Any dream is worth more
Than a piece of sad cloth.
And I didn't give anyone permission
To kill in my name,
A man is just a man
And if there is a god, so he wanted it.
The same ground I walk on
Will continue, I will be gone;
Heading also towards oblivion
There is no doctrine that doesn't go,
And no people that hasn't
Believed themselves the chosen people.
