La Aparecida
Jorge Drexler
The Apparition
The afternoon fades in Zanja Honda,
The beach is mist and brilliance,
The wind from the sea invokes its voice.
They say she returns every March,
She sings when there is no light,
And from the Lighthouse Beach
They saw her float towards the South.
I came to see you, apparition, light of the lookout,
Music of the tides.
With the sunset stopped,
The sea is less than a rumor,
And gives way to every sound,
To every change of color.
I threw myself alone to the dunes
With the first darkness
To see her walk on the foam,
All lies and truth.
I came to see you, apparition, light of the lookout,
Music of the tides, give me your song.
I crossed the night walking
From El Cabito to the lighthouse,
Hanging on to a bottle,
Tempting the imagination.
And between the cane and the vigil
I saw her pass more than once,
I followed her along the shore
When dawn began.
I came to see you, apparition, light of the lookout,
Music of the tides.
