Collapse
You barely drew a card
But it was the one holding the castle
Our love gave way at the seams
And the soldering on the rings came undone
We were left out in the open
With no 'maybe' to shelter us
Not a single spring remained
That hadn't suddenly turned sour
The cards were falling, time was bleeding
And every structure of every poem
Was crumbling
The house was fragile, the roof caving in
And you and I embraced, salvaging what we could
In the midst of the collapse
The table falls, the chairs fall
The bed falls and shatters
The paintings fall, the vases fall
The shoes, the plates, the coat racks fall
Photos fall, remote controls, notebooks fall
Winter clothes, children, kisses, horns fall
Toothbrushes, unfinished plans fall
You barely drew a card
But it was the one holding the castle
