Codfish
There's a smell that pleases me from the kitchen
It's not different but I can't quite figure out
Is it sardinia, sawdust, or sardine
I don't know, I don't know but what a smell to savor
It's codfish, she says, and she's sure
The Portuguese dish that I like the most
I'll light a candle on the table right away
So we can see what romance brings us later
I believe it's not bad
My favorite dish, Maria, your codfish
The Portuguese way, not bad at all
Maria with a lit candle, let's eat codfish
This dinner is a special one
It's also rare and costs a lot of money
Because there's no codfish left in Portugal
It's already emigrated to foreign mouths
So now it's a cherished food
When the Portuguese codfish is well made
And since there's a damn crisis now
The codfish is eaten by candlelight
