El Nuevo Grito Guerrero
Jorge Guerrero
The New Warrior's Cry
There, tra-lay-la-lay, tra-lay-la-lay
Gentlemen, with your permission
The warrior shouts again
Of the relancina copla
And the guayabero passage
Of the criollo 6 by right
And the haughty little bird
Of the Quirpa and Guacharaca
Chipola and Cunabichero
I defend myself completely
With my romantic verses
Maybe because I've always been
Quite a serenader
And today I brought you a little joropo
Very tasty and rural
Born for history
On February 14th
Sheltered by the Moon
And a swarm of stars
That gave me the temperance
Along with the summer heat
And at the same time the grace
Of the Lord up in the sky
Here I am, dear people
Entrenched and serene
Defending with song
The purity of your heritage
Inspired by love
And the appreciation I have for you
Because one afternoon in Elorza
I swore if I remember correctly
To raise folklore high
Respect it and defend it
Because for me folklore
Is everything we have
Plains rivers and mountains
Jungles and mining empires
Folklore is a lagoon
The bustle of a herdsman
A corral of gentle cows
The song of the calf herder
Folklore the Ave Maria
The Our Father and the Creed
Folklore loving children
And respecting the elderly
Extending a friendly hand
To the humble beggar
Folklore is all, every single one
Of the natives of this land
I hope not to disappoint you
In this fight I carry
Have faith in me as I do
Forward, who said fear
There, tra-lay-la-lay, tra-lay-la-lay
With respect to the seats
Of the llanero pentagram
I don't think I'll go last
Nor first either
But I'm in the papers
I don't know if good or bad
Since the people say that
According to how we behave
I plan to reach the top
God willing and I don't die
Without getting involved with anyone
Because I always consider
That living in envy is bad
And coveting what belongs to others
Criticizing everywhere
Each in their own territory
And this is for you to catch
Colleagues and companions
I'm going to continue my path
Along this long road
Forward and little by little
With the vineyard of the Supreme
Without crossing the line
Without violating other boundaries
Without fishing in murky waters
Or committing outrages
To see what awaits me
In the coming years
I don't have a powerful voice
Or a throat of steel
But I sing and my verses are heard
My couplets in the cuerdero
The melody doesn't fail me
Nor does the squareness
And I think people like my singing
Because I do it with care
Thanks to the infinite plain
That gave me its course
On this beautiful plain
My songbook was inspired
There I composed the complaint
And my savannah laurel
My reflections were born
With the morning wind
Longings of my life
Here in my chest I carry you
How to forget you plain
I repeat it to you again
If the remains of Don Eduardo Guerrero
Rest in you
The old man who taught me
To be honest and sincere
Ready for whatever comes
And besides, a partygoer
A bit crazy and bohemian
Drinker and womanizer
Sometimes I get sad
Thoughtful and tearful
For the blows I've been dealt
By treacherous affections
Luckily they didn't kill me
The blows they gave me
And I'm alive and kicking
Calmer and more accurate
Traveling the roads
Singing more than a goldfinch
Bringing joy
To the people I love so much
If anyone wants to meet me
There in Elorza I'll be waiting
In a little palm ranch
Close to a grapevine
To the right a saman tree
And to the left a pigsty
And a big laurel tree
At the gate of the corral
About three or four cows
Chewing in the paddock
A mule and a horse
Eating in a pasture
By the way, in one corner
There's a shoemaker's stick
That has in its buds
A cockroach nest
I also have a little farm
Because I'm a good farmer
Go there and visit me
Who knows, we might have a party
I'm at your service
With true affection
Greetings to the ladies
To the child and the gentleman
You've heard on the harp
My new warrior's cry!!!
