Tequila Con Limón
Jorge Negrete
Tequila With Lemon
I bring music in my soul,
and a song here in my chest;
a song that tears me apart
when I sing it with love;
I learned it in those fields,
with wounds from fallow land;
with machete cuts
and the deep sound of the big guitar.
I learned it in the cockfight,
betting on a fine rooster,
and I feel confident
to sing it around here;
the pride of Jalisco,
they named him my godfather,
and he has no more godchildren,
because he already has me.
Brave and red blood,
challenging like a knife's edge,
is the blood of my race,
dreamy and songful,
brave and belligerent blood,
valiant and quarrelsome
like a prickly pear leaf.
At the horse's hooves,
I always bet my money;
and if sometimes I fail,
I make up for it in a gamble.
I always have on the tip of my tongue,
the tune I love the most,
and to see who it suits,
and to raise it to their health.
CHORUS: Brave and red blood...
