La Coqueta
Jorge Negrete
The Flirtatious One
When I lift my eyes
And look at the starry sky
I want to be in love
To have someone to sing to
I think of having a girlfriend
Prettier than a star
And to be just for her
And to love only her
But unfortunately for me
Today I sing at a window
I sing very reluctantly
Because it makes me angry to know...
That I sing to a flirtatious one
Who deceives my friends,
Those who are already enemies
Because of that woman
May God grant that if she is pretty
She gets crazy smallpox
And her heart of stone
Turns into cracklings
May her mouth twist
And she gets a little crazy,
Her left eye shrinks
And she gets itchy
I laugh at her habit
Of mocking men
Who cry all day
Still seeking her love
I hope she meets a man
Who teaches her to be sincere
To take away her cunning ways
And make her see reason
May God grant that if she is pretty
She gets crazy smallpox
And her heart of stone
Turns into cracklings
May her mouth twist
And she gets a little crazy,
Her left eye shrinks
And she gets itchy
