Estrela do Mar
Jorge Palma
Starfish
On a night when the sky had a brighter shine
And when sleep seemed unwilling to come
I went to lay down on the beach alone in the open air
And there, far from time, I ended up sleeping
I woke up to the gentle touch of a kiss
And a freckled face filled my gaze
Still half-dreaming, I asked her who she was
She laughed and whispered softly: starfish
I am the starfish
I only obey him, only he knows me
Only he knows who I am from the beginning to the end
Only to him I am faithful and he is the one who protects me
When someone forcefully
Wants to own me
I don't know if the desire or the astonishment was greater
But I know that for moments I stopped thinking
An invisible flame ignited my chest
Something impossible made me believe
In silence, we exchanged secrets and embraces
We inscribed a new alphabet in space
A thousand years have passed since our encounter
But a thousand years are few or nothing for the starfish
