Mãe
José Augusto
Mother
I thought of the most beautiful words I could remember
And like magic they entered my heart
I saw the light of a shooting star shining in the sky
I grabbed a pen and paper
Started writing the song
I don't know how many verses I wrote
How many things I left unsaid
What I feel inside is so big
It can't be explained
I just know that we are one
And that your thoughts are mine
And that when I think of you
I am closer to God
I want to tell you, my mother (I love you)
You are my dearest (I love you)
I want to tell you, my mother
That I owe everything to you
I still remember you staying up
Waiting for me to come home in the early hours
Full of fear and worry
Smiling in your own way
Perhaps trying to disguise it
Because when you saw me return
It was a relief for your heart
I remember your head caresses
The moments of peace and faith
And your nightly prayer
Talking to God
You taught me all of this
These things I haven't forgotten
Today I try to pass on to my children
What I learned
