Assim No Más
José Claudio Machado
Just Like That
For knowing the struggle that life has given me
My galloping as a young man, skirmish of pain
When I see you coming, my fruit of the forest
Dragging your alpargatas, lacking love!
It seems that the silence of the nightly rounds
Gathers the spirited colt of imagination
When I wait for you early, my isolated path
Washing away the bitterness despite the illusion!
I spurred on reminiscences with heavy stirrups
Hoping that longing would tame
My sorrows!
Sooner or later, taming the wild horses
I will settle in the peace that waiting has given me
Drowning sorrows in the waters of the stream
Where I kneaded my dreams in your land!
In the restless afternoons of exchanged yearnings
Plowing the promised land among the stubble
Saving for the week the honey of the lizard
And the Castilian morning that I dismounted from the stars!
Just like that, I lose myself illuminated by closeness
Amidst the circumstances of the same fields
That welcomed you pure, my remaining Moon
My Charrua sunset wrapped in peace!
