La Canción Del Pirata
Jose de Espronceda
The Pirate's Song
With ten cannons on each side
Wind aft, full sail
The sea is not cut, it flies
A brigantine sailboat
The pirate ship they call
Feared for its bravery
In all the known sea
From one end to the other
The Moon shines on the sea
And the wind moans on the canvas
And in soft motion rises
Waves of silver and blue
And the pirate captain sees
Singing happily at the stern
Asia on one side, Europe on the other
And there in front, Istanbul
Sail my sailboat
Without fear that neither enemy ship
Nor storm nor fair weather
Can alter your course
Or hold your value
Twenty prizes we have taken
In spite of the English
And their banners have given up
A hundred nations at my feet
For my boat is my treasure
For my God is my freedom
My law, the strength and wind
My only motherland the sea
There move fierce war
Blind kings, for a palm more of land
For I have here for mine
What encompasses the brave sea
To whom no one imposed laws
And there isn't a beach, be it any
Or banner of splendor
That doesn't feel my right
And faces my worth
For my boat is my treasure
For my God is my freedom
My law, the strength and the wind
My only motherland the sea
