El Tamayo
José Larralde
The Tamayo
Who has so much wealth
Like Tamayo does
At one time he had clothes
And another time he had a horse
At one time he galloped
Against the wind, and like lightning
The troop left in a truck
And the truck gave him a sideways glance
Who has so much wealth
Like Tamayo does
Thin pouch without tobacco
And a story in every callus
I found him wasted in the town
Dumb consolation, maybe
Once is not twice
He told me, and you know it
Why save coins
If the coat has a hole
Yerba, tobacco, and noodles
The pay for a whole month
With water, trap, and knife
The otter leaves its mark
Better than the winch is the dog
And they call him an animal
Who has so much wealth
Like Tamayo does
At one time he had clothes
And another time he had a horse
