Mesmo que El Hornero
José Larralde
Even Like El Hornero
Like imitating the hornero
I made a little mud hut,
where I shelter my pups
and the woman I worship.
It has the four corners
surrounded by maternal love,
it took me several winters,
with as many summers,
because these hands have made it
maybe because I love it so much.
I've seen a thousand suns rise,
I've seen a thousand nights fall,
without protests or complaints,
always close to the adobe.
Bless my poor luck,
to work from January to January,
with patience and dedication,
with affection and love,
I made a singing little hut,
just like the hornero.
It's nice to see the little bird
when it starts its nest,
fluttering from puddle to puddle,
bringing mud in its beak,
working tirelessly,
so I had to go
like a mud-carrying bird,
if to be like the hornero
all I lack is to fly.
I don't talk about what I've suffered
because the roof comes first,
if I worked like the hornero,
to build my nest,
it's a duty I've fulfilled,
I can say it proudly,
and if today I enjoy that happiness,
all that's left for me to ask
is for God to let me live
to see my children grown up.
