Romance de Un Perseguido
José Larralde
Ballad of a Pursued One
Why does God make me love
with such a deep love,
why if afterwards the world
gives me suffering,
why if I am not to have
more than thorns in my footsteps
I seek the light of a star,
if they don't let me see it.
I who always walked alone,
with no other comfort than singing,
having loved so much
they don't even let me love,
injustice and power force me
to walk in bitterness...
and you, flame of my life,
mother of my hope,
you place trust in me,
and bleed for my wound,
in your afflicted face
I see all the tenderness,
bud of your beauty,
mouth of fiery passion,
I am the captive bird,
in the sky of your height.
Because of you I knew the desire
to beat in an embrace,
and in my desert case,
you were the early dawn,
because of you I rose proudly,
righteous in the attempt,
because of you I knew the lament
of feeling pursued,
and in my relieved madness,
feeling you as I do.
