Si Olvida Que Eres Hombre
José Larralde
If You Forget That You Are a Man
If you are a man
Do not forget that you are a man
Forgetting is forgetting God and hurting the world
Perhaps the summit
Of your skin will amaze you
Temporary journey to the deep
You will forget the tree, the spikes
The sun and the paths of the siesta
If you forget that you are a man, do not tell me
That your poor heart is celebrating
If you forget that you are a man
Who could be the father of forgetfulness
Or be a brother, be a son, or be a friend
Or be poetry in the outstretched palm of a hand?
Because it is difficult to rise as a man
Only those who do not forget will do it
And even though the summit of your skin amazes you
Only the heart is death or life
Through the silent dust of the hours
Your impoverished idea will walk
Like a mute organ that treasures
The weight of an inconceivable note
And you will have to be a bit of life
And a millennium of shadow, without dawn
