Solo Fuimos

We Were Only
We were in time a chimera
a raft without a shore
and a destiny without tomorrow.
Portrait aging in the attic
a star without its shine
and a dying every week.
Window through which summer entered
it slips away from my hand
and takes our laughter
and we were a traveler without return
and in the fireplace adorned with wings of ash
without seeing that it was the appointed time
the express train was leaving and I couldn't hold you back.
You returned to my platform and I was autumn
you withered my offspring at the time of your departure
Where did all our dreams go,
where our yearnings, our yearnings and anxieties?
Two shadows without contour in time
a fading in the silence my love we were only.
