Ahora Que Llego La Madurez
José Luis Perales
Now That Maturity Has Arrived
Now that maturity has arrived
And I am sitting here
Now that half a life has passed
Through these hands
Now that everyone has gone to sleep
And the air in the room has fallen silent
Now that the night has become peaceful
Naked in front of me
Now that the fire is dying in the hearth
And a gray moon kisses the windows
Today I want to take stock of what I gained
And what I lost
I remember losing that childhood
So full of caresses and kisses
And to not lie
From a timely spanking
I lost my old school
And my first teacher
And a woman with gray hair
Who taught me to pray
I remember losing a pure soul
In my first teenage sin
I remember losing my book of poems
And an enchanted castle made of sand
And that half-girlfriend
Who taught me to kiss
Now that maturity has arrived
And I am sitting here
Now that half a life has passed
Through these hands
Now that everyone has gone to sleep
And the air in the room has fallen silent
Now that the night has become peaceful
Naked in front of me
Now that the fire is dying in the hearth
And a gray moon kisses the windows
Today I want to take stock of what I gained
And I have only you
