Denise

Denise
That afternoon it rained
And she wandered through the streets
Like a shadow
Soon the night enveloped her
And she returned to the tavern
And a sailor embraced her... yes.
She escaped from those clutches
She didn't see people smiling
And in her rented garret
She cried silently until she fell asleep,
And that playful little one
Kissed Denise's forehead
And amid sobs whispered:
You cry for me.
And at dawn
A house without light
Eyes without life
And in the air remained
The childish smile
That the rain erased.
That afternoon it rained
And she wandered through the streets
Like a shadow
Soon the night enveloped her
And she didn't return to the old bar
No sailor waited for her... no.
People say that Denise
Spent the night in the canal
And on one shore was found
A fringe of her old shawl.
The tavern is now closed
And in Denise's garret
A black ribbon was hung;
She died in April
