El Regreso
José Luis Perales
The Return
I remember one morning tired of Madrid
I took off to Villadiego and disappeared
I took the national road number three, and then
I repeated to myself a thousand times that I wouldn't return
I exchanged my apartment for a nest
Utopical
And typical
Hanging from a rock over the river
And facing the sky
I saw the poplar undress so many times
Impudic
Bucolic
And I heard the deer scream in the rut
And I had a dog
And a sea of stone
And a winter sun
But there is no happiness that lasts a hundred years and here I am
Winking at the Cybeles in case I forget
For Goya, Malasaña, and Lavapies I get lost
But someone says that from Madrid, you reach heaven
I changed the nest again for the house
Geometric
And acrylic
With a view of a neighbor to the north
To the south the street
Where a famished stray cat passes by
Abulic
And as a background, a scream of sirens
And in the west
A shopping center
And today
I remember one morning tired of Madrid
I took off to Villadiego and disappeared
I took the national road number three and then
I repeated to myself a thousand times that I wouldn't return...
