El Soñador
José Luis Perales
The Dreamer
To look at the sky at dawn
Someone taught him when he was a child
To watch the rain from his window
And the swallow to build its nest
And with the guitar in his hands
He made songs his path
And with the morning he happily left
To sing his truth to the world.
And he became a dreamer
And wanted to be a friend of freedom
And of the flower and of love
And wanted to be a poet in the city
And didn't find the sunlight
And remained silent among the people.
When he remembered his happy childhood
A smile would appear on his face
And on his forehead you could see
Those dreams he had
To pick up his guitar again
And sing those melodies
At sunrise over the mountain
Or as the fire died in the hearth.
And he became a dreamer
And wanted to be a friend of freedom
And of the flower and of love
Just a poet of the people
And he returned and stayed
And wanted to make his home on the hill.
