Samaritanas Del Amor
José Luis Perales
Samaritans of Love
To those cheerful girls from the street,
who spill perfumes in the night,
with open wings, in case
there's someone to invite them
to reach the moon.
Frost and glass butterflies,
aimless seagulls, who look at me as they pass by.
Samaritans of love,
who leave their hearts
between the corner and the café,
between the shadows of the garden
or in the dim light of a brothel,
at dawn.
Fragile dolls of love,
who give their soul in exchange for a flower.
To those cheerful girls from the street,
who disguise their sadness with shine,
eternal companions of the lamppost,
of the red traffic light and the thief,
who dream
of someone's arrival, who might
gift them a carnation perfume,
and love them.
Samaritans of love,
who leave their hearts
between the corner and the café,
between the shadows of the garden
or in the dim light of a brothel,
at dawn.
Fragile dolls of love,
who give their soul in exchange for a flower.
