Veinte Años
José Luis Perales
Twenty Years
She met him when she was still young
and got married in a white suit and by the church
and got tired of looking at him after four days
and gradually built up patience.
In the mirror, she wondered if she was truly happy
and insisted on practicing a smile for him
to try to win him over one more day.
They were alone, not a word passed between them.
She drank her coffee and he fell asleep in his armchair
while a sparrow sang in the garden.
It's been twenty years with him, who would have thought
and the springs have fallen asleep in the garden
but there's no time to think, it got late
and there are four children returning from school.
