Esta cobardía
José Luis Rodríguez
This Cowardice
She doesn’t even realize that when I look at her
I hold back my sighs to keep from giving it away,
that my silent love ignites just by seeing her,
that I’d give my life just to have her.
She doesn’t even realize that my eyes are shining,
that I tremble beside her and even blush,
that she’s the reason my love awakens,
that she’s my obsession and she doesn’t even know.
This cowardice of my love for her
makes me see her just like a star,
so far, so far from reality
that I never expect to reach her.
She doesn’t even realize she’s always had
the thousands of kisses she never asked for,
in my lonely nights, barren of dreams,
that in wild desire I feel like her owner.
She doesn’t even realize that I’ve already taken her,
that she’s already mine without me loving her,
that it’s her cold soul that torments me,
that she sees me dying and doesn’t even know.
This cowardice of my love for her
makes me see her just like a star,
so far, so far from reality
that I never expect to reach her.
